Once upon a time, Mika was bored on a random trip. We made up characters:
Marilyn is a little girl (that follows Mika’s age) that likes everything that Mika also likes, whether it be ice cream, jewels, and other cute and shiny things. She can also transform into a little bird.
Harry is a much older man who is a friend of Marilyn. He isn’t her father, but somehow a more capable sidekick. He likes the color green, and is generally the first one to panic.
Together they take on adventures (usually based on what’s happening in real life at the time the story is being made up) to collect shiny coins.
Here is one of our Harry and Marilyn stories: Jellyfish version.
One day, Marilyn was up in her room reading a book about Jellyfish. She then saw chapter that caught her eye about the “Golden Jellyfish” coin. She ran downstairs and told Harry about it.
Harry was on the sofa, feasting on chips. Marilyn shook him so hard that one chip flew out of the bag and into Marilyn’s mouth.
“Heeeey!” Harry shouted.
“Look at this, there’s a golden jelly fish coin! We have to get it!” Marilyn responded.
“Cool, how do we collect it?” Harry asked.
“It’s at the bottom of the Pacific ocean”
“So we’re going to take a boat?”
“Ok. Get your sunblock.”
So Harry and Marilyn packed their things and drove to the dock. There they rode a boat going to Bintan.
(Which incidentally where we were actually going that same weekend)
They asked the boatmen to drop them off in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but they said it wasn’t allowed. So Harry and Marilyn just jumped off the boat. Marilyn cast a magical spell on Harry so he could breathe under water. Marilyn then turned into a Jellyfish.
They swam to the middle of the ocean until suddenly they found themselves surrounded by a bloom of box jellyfish.
Harry panicked and shouted and tried to swim as fast as he could for he knew that the box jellies were the deadliest jellyfish in the world.
So Marilyn turned herself into a box jellyfish and talked to the other box jellyfish not to sting Harry. The box jellyfish nodded in agreement. Marilyn then told Harry that he was already safe.
But while they were swimming Harry kept on edging away from Marilyn, because she was still a box jellyfish. So Marilyn turned into a seahorse to she could look a lot friendlier to Harry.
The two continued to swim towards Bintan. Marilyn asked “aren’t we looking for the Jellyfish coin”? But Harry insisted to stay in Bintan because he wanted to drink a mango smoothie and stay for one night. He said he was traumatized by all the box jellyfish.
They reached the shores of Bintan where Marilyn once again transformed into a tropical bird. Meanwhile Harry went to order his smoothie.
They were enjoying the beach when suddenly they saw a crazy man in a black suit and mask. He had a mustache and also drinking a coconut juice. And every time he saw someone go for a swim in the ocean, he would shout “Do not search for the Jellyfish coin!”
Harry immediately got worried and asked, “Are we sure we want to go look for the Jellyfish coin? That man is so scary”.
Marilyn confidently said, “He’s crazy. Don’t trust crazy guys”.
Harry just nodded in agreement and they proceed to go to their room and relax.
The following morning, they woke up at 5AM and began to swim to the middle of the ocean. Marilyn casted a spell on Harry again so he could breathe underwater. Marilyn turned into a seahorse.
After about 20 minutes of swimming, they saw the crazy man again in scuba diving gear holding a sign that said “STOP! Do not search for the golden jellyfish coin”.
Harry and Marilyn ignored the sign, although Harry was again visibly scared. They kept swimming deeper and deeper to the bottom of the ocean where they found a cave tunnel. They followed the tunnel, until they found a portion that was dry, and they could breathe normally.
Once again, they saw a sign “WARNING! DO NOT LOOK FOR THE GOLDEN JELLYFISH COIN. YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT”. Beside it was a red button.
Marilyn pressed the button and the whole cave started to shake. The ground beneath them suddenly dropped and they ended up being slid down into a huge underground cavern. And at the middle was a golden treasure chest.
They slowly approached the treasure chest, and opened it.
Inside was the Golden Jellyfish coin.
As they reached towards it, the crazy man started to appear again. He was shouting in a loud menacing voice, “DO NOT TOUCH THE GOLDEN JELLYFISH COIN”.
Harry and Marilyn both reached out to grab it at the same time, while closing their eyes preparing for something bad to happen.
But there was nothing.
Marilyn looked at the crazy man and said, “Why did you keep on saying not to touch the jellyfish coin?”
The crazy man laughed and said, “I just like scaring people to see who really wanted to get the coin. And since you were brave all through out, you won the prize! Congratulations”.
Harry and Marilyn cheered that they had collected another coin from their adventures.
They swam back up, and just in time a boat from Bintan travelling back to Singapore was there. They climbed aboard the boat and went home.
